World Bank Okays $150-m Loan For Drinking Water Project In North Karnataka

The World Bank has approved financing of $150 million Rs 810 crore credits for the second phase of the Karnataka Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project KRWSS to be implemented in 11 districts of north Karnataka.

The KRWSS, also called the Jal Nirmal Project JNP, is part of the Bank long-term support to the Government efforts to increase rural communities access to improved and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services......

Students of 25 more Chennai schools will get access to safe drinking water this year as voluntary organisations have come forward to install purification plants, Mayor M.Subramanian said here on Tuesday.

He was inaugurating a water purification plant installed by the Lions Clubs International District 324 A1 near Labour Statue on the Marina Beach. The facility, installed at a cost of Rs.9 lakh, could treat 9,000 litres of water every day. Nearly 40,000 people visit the beach every day......

The Rs.30-crore Bhavani Combined Water Supply Scheme will meet a persistent demand from the residents of Kavundampalayam Municipality and Vadavalli Town Panchayat for regular supply of drinking water, the local bodies said on Thursday.

After Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the supply on Tuesday, the local bodies on the city western border are hopeful of getting out of a more than a decade-old drinking water scarcity for at least another 10 years......

Rajasthan Introduces Water Supply Reforms For Better Irrigation

The Rajasthan Government has introduced wide-ranging reforms in the supply of water from the major canal systems to farmers for irrigation after identifying the shortcomings in a recent survey and amended the procedure for providing turns for water supply till the tail-end.

According to Principal Water Resources Secretary Ram Lubhaya, Water Consumer Associations in villages will decide the turn of farmers following the issue of permanent slips to them in the command areas of Gang Canal, Bhakhra Canal and Indira Gandhi Canal......

Board Blamed For Dirty Water

Elected representatives including MPs, MLCs and MLAs from the city on Thursday accused officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board HMWS&SB of failing to stop polluted drinking water from being supplied to the city. They also alleged that the Board was giving wrong figures on the amount of water being supplied to the city every day.

The MIM MLAs, Mr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Mr Virasat Rasool Khan, said that several areas in Yakutpura and nampally were receiving “coloured” water. Desilting of sewer lines had not been done properly due to which the drains were over-flowing. In addition to that a large number of manholes were not covered......
