Take Steps To Provide Drinking Water To Refugees At Pampar

Collector V. Arun Roy has instructed officials to take immediate steps to provide protected drinking water to the refugees at the Pampar camp within a month. The Collector also heard the grievances of the refugees and inspected a well near the camp during his recent visit.

The people at the camp said that they were finding it very difficult to get protected drinking water for a long time. A bore well dug up to 700 feet depth had gone waste......

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Rs 2,000 Cr Sought For Kolkata Water Supply

The Railway Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, has sought Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation KMC to provide 24-hour water supply in the city, said the Mayor, Mr Sovan Chatterjee.

Addressing members of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce here on Tuesday, the Mayor said there was a move to set up a hospital at Bagha Jatin area in the southern part of the city in collaboration with Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore......

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Chennai Gets A New Source Of Drinking Water

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi is to formally launch the 100 million litres a day MLD desalination plant tomorrow. This is a landmark development for Chennai as it is the first to get a desalination plant on this scale through a public-private partnership mode.

This will mark the start of a new source of supply of drinking water, the sea, for Chennai residents. The Rs 600-crore facility, Chennai Water Desalination Ltd, will draw over 240 MLD of sea water and process it to supply 100 MLD of potable water using reverse osmosis technology......

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Five Water Supply Schemes Cleared

Five combined water supply schemes and one supply improvement scheme, totally estimated to cost around Rs. 1,712 crore, have been cleared by the State government. The schemes cover Madurai, Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Tirupur districts. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has ordered that the schemes be given administrative sanction, according to an official statement.

In terms of project cost, the water supply scheme for Madurai district and parts of Sivaganga district is the highest: Rs. 784 crore. Under the project, Melur, Avaniyapuram and Tirumangalam municipalities, A. Vellalapatti, Vilangudi, Paravai, Thirunagar, Alanganallur and Palamedu town panchayats and 1,430 habitations in eight panchayat unions, all located in Madurai district, and Singanampuneri of Sivaganga district will benefit......
