Decision On Drinking Water Projects Within 15 Days

They were speaking at ZP meeting on Tuesday. Congress member A Lokeshkumar raised the issue of Rs 12.96 crore proposal and said that the proposal was sent to the goverment six months ago. However, not even a single pie had been released so far. Minjur Facility To Supply Water At Less Than 5 Paise Per Litre

Water at less than five paise per litre could become a reality for Metrowater, which has been grappling to bridge the supplydemand gap in safe drinking water in the city. Announcing the completion of the Rs-600 crore sea water desalination plant at Minjur near here, IVRCL Infrastructures and Project Ltd., has said that it would be providing safe desalinated water to Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board CMWSSB at a cost of Rs 48.74 per thousand litres which translates to 4.87 paise per litre.

The company had incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle, Chennai Water Desalination Limited CWDL with a Spanish consortium partner Befesa Agua. This SPV was awarded the project on a DBOOT Design Build Own Operate and Transfer basis for 25 years. The plant would be returned to CMWSSB or Metrowater after 25 years......

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Facilities Soon To Monitor Quality Of Waterbodies

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board plans to establish facilities to monitor the quality of water at waterbodies around Chennai. The testing stations, proposed in Poondi, Red Hills, Porur and Pulicat, will study the physiochemical and bacteriological parameters of the water.

The Veeranam Lake in Cuddalore district from where water is supplied to Chennai would also get a similar facility. The project would be taken up with funding from the Central Pollution Control Board CPCB......

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Tata-Pepsi JV To First Focus On Affordable Packaged Water

The proposed joint venture between Tata Global Beverages TGB and PepsiCo, announced this April to develop beverages in the health and wellness space, is likely to begin with developing affordable water.

Discussions are on, say sources, on the possibility of pricing a one-litre bottle of water below Rs 10, perhaps even around Rs 5. The joint venture may also offer fortified water and low-priced beverages in the earth and wellness space to attract health-conscious customers......
