Dyeing, Washing Units To Go On One-day Stir

THE dyeing and washing unit owners will observe a one-day token fast here on Wednesday urging the State and Central governments for sanctioning 75 per cent subsidy for 20 common effluent treatment plants (CETPs), which were established at a cost of Rs 800 crore, because of the lack of a response from the government following their indefinite strike.

Dyeing Association of Tirupur president S Samiappan said, "As the dyeing unit owners had invested huge money in the CETPs with more than Rs 600 crore as bank loan and Rs 200 crore of their own, the dyeing industry has been completely crushed under bad financial condition."

About 700 units in the Tirupur cluster have been on an indefinite strike since December 25, demanding subsidy and concessions for the industry, which is facing troubles following the SC's order to pay a fine of Rs 62.3 crore.
