Use Of Recycled Water To Be Mandatory

Recycled water is presently manufactured at only two places in the City the Vrishabhavati Valley and Yelahanka and sold at areas in the vicinity.

The recycled water is being sold at Rs 16 per cubic litre. This will be brought down to Rs five per cubic litre in future. Twenty filling points and equal number of storage tanks will be set up, disclosed BWSSB minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, here on Wednesday.

speaking at functions organised at Nagarbhavi, Srigandhadakaval and Dasarahalli to lay the foundation stones for Ground Level Reservoirs GLR, the minister said that tenders will be called for production of recycled water in three months and water would be made available within 18 months.

A sum of Rs 1,000 crore has been set aside for implementation of the project, the Minister said. “When the project is completed, it would be made mandatory to use recycled water for purposes other than cooking and drinking,” he declared.  

Apart from the GLR for which foundation stones were laid today, GLR would also be constructed at these seven locations within 11 months:  Pete Chennappa Industrial Layout in Govindaraja Nagar; Annapurneshwari Nagar; Nandini Layout in Dasarahalli; Coffee Board Layout in Byatarayanapura Puram; Mahadevapura and R T Nagar. 

Rs 72 crore

Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA M Srinivas said that a sum of Rs 72 crore had been spent in the constituency for development activities so far, the highest sum in any constituency in the City.
